Infrastructure organisations are organisations which provide information and advice to other organisations. Most voluntary organisations in the UK have access to a local infrastructure organisation, often called a ‘CVS’ – Council for Voluntary Service, although in practice they have a variety of names.
Many voluntary sector infrastructure organisations are registered with NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action) and your local organisation(s) can be found via: www.navca.org.uk/membersdirectory
It is also useful to find out whether there is a national or umbrella body that you can join and what support they can offer – for example, information, advice or training. An umbrella body is more likely to be able to provide support specifically related to your area of work or activities. One example is Community Matters which supports organisations managing community buildings. Many of these organisations are also in the NAVCA directory.
